Superbia

SUPERBIA

You've faced all sorts of terrible dangers and obstinate foes on your journey down to Superbia, the Pride layer of Purgatory, but now it's time for the Executors to face an evil beyond anything they've ever encountered before...

    High school.

Unlike the previous Layers, Superbia is not a town or a city but an enormous sprawling high school campus that makes up the entirety of the layer. The buildings have the washed-out, off-white colour of a building that was probably once pristine but has since started looking a bit grubby and the inside of the school itself has a sad, neglected sort of feeling to it. Much of the campus looks as though it's been worn down by the passage of time without much, if any, care or consideration taken to its upkeep.

Despite all this, the school is still bustling with a healthy population of Specters who make up both the student body and the faculty members. The Layer as a whole lacks a visible day/night cycle, as it sits under a perpetually dull sky, but the school still operates like... well, your typical high school, with students trickling in from the campus dorms at around 9AM for classes and leaving at 3PM to either attend extracurricular activities or to just do as they please around the campus. Faculty members have a similar schedule, arriving at the school buildings at 7AM and leaving at 6PM when all the students have left.

Despite their total lack of enrollment in the school, the Specters will treat Executors no differently than anyone else in Superbia, addressing teens and children as students and anyone who gives off Adult Vibes as faculty members. They won't be expected to know everything about the school or its students (people transfer in all the time, after all!) but Specters will call you out if you happen to be acting strangely, or against your assigned 'role'. Students in particular may face punishment for breaking the rules or acting out of turn but as to what that actually means... well, feel free to fuck around and find out!

It's worth noting that despite the dull sky giving the impression of overcast weather, Superbia is typically very humid and warm, like the height of summer and during the 'day', you'll hear cicadas droning away, giving everything a lazy, monotonous sort of feel to it. Thankfully, many of the main buildings are air conditioned but if you plan to spend a lot of time tooling around outside, try not to get heatstroke.

The campus is neatly organized, with four main buildings taking up the majority of the space: the school building, the club building, the gymnasium and the student dorms, with the much smaller faculty dorms shunted off further back from the main cluster of buildings. How sad. There's also a few outdoor areas for sports like the pool and the running track and of course, no high school would be complete without a soccer field. The school provides all the equipment necessary for students and faculty members to make use off, but just like the rest of the school, the equipment has a scuffed-up, hand-me-down sort of feel to it.

As a refreshing change from the last two Layers, there appears to be no real economy at all in Superbia. Much like Limbo, characters are free to take food and other items as they like from the cafeteria and stores in the layer, with the justification that the school is paying or providing for them in some way.

It's important to note that there is no apparent way to leave the campus, as the school loops back in on itself no matter what attempts you make to leave. Once the Executors enter Superbia, they are permanently trapped until the Underside is unlocked.

Like other layers, players are given freedom to handwave some incidental locations to better facilitate play. The fixed locations of Superbia can be found below.

    SCHOOL BUILDING:

⚝ Classrooms: Your standard issue classrooms. There's... really nothing fancy about them, though it's worth noting that they are much more in line with your typical High School Anime Classroom as opposed to something you might see elsewhere. Each class is kitted out with enough desks to comfortably house around twenty students, with lockers at the back for storing personal items and a chalkboard at the front for all the teacher's most important notes.
⚝ Library: The quietest and closest to a chilled out place you're going to find on campus. The library isn't particularly huge but it's very well stocked and has a section all about the school's history, if you feel like being particularly bored. Characters will find that when in the library, they aren't able to raise their voices above an inside voice at the loudest, no matter how hard they try. Hey, wait, you shouldn't be talking in the library in the first place...!
⚝ Cafeteria: A cafeteria big enough to serve all the school's students and faculty when it comes time for food. Breakfast is served here for faculty members exclusively at 7AM, with lunch coming at 12PM and dinner at 6PM for everyone on campus. There isn't a huge amount of variety in the food (which is all bog standard Japanese breakfast, lunch and dinner food) just about what you'd expect from a high school cafeteria and it's not the worst food you've had in Purgatory so far but it's not really anything to write home about, either. At least it's free!
⚝ Faculty Offices: The collection of rooms that belong to the staff members of the school. This includes the teachers' lounge and the nurses office, but also includes the principal's office, though the latter is inaccessible even to faculty members. Students are typically not permitted to enter the faculty offices without good reason (such as seeing one of the teachers) and will be ushered out if they're found lurking about.

    CLUB BUILDING:

⚝ Club Rooms: No school is complete without some weirdly specific and well funded student clubs! Superbia is big on these kinds of extracurricular activities and so the club building has three whole stories just for student associations. Most of them are pretty normal (classic literature club, sports clubs, music clubs), some are a little niche (anime club, occult club) and some of them are just kind of hogwild for a high school (historical recreation club???). They're all bizarrely well equipped and everyone seems to be having a good time, if nothing else...
⚝ Student Council Office: It's not exactly clear just what the student council does, but apparently they're good at solving all sorts of problems and in all honesty are probably doing a lot of work around the school that the teachers should be doing. This is their main base of operations and if you'd like to speak to anybody on the student council, this is the best place to track them down.
⚝ Storage Rooms: Storage rooms for the clubs and past events run by the student council. It's not the most exciting place in the world but there's some neat things to be found here if you want to go digging.
⚝ Shops: Not particularly large or excitingly stocked, but there are a handful of small shops on the bottom floor of the school building that you can check out if you're in need of a few extra things. There's your bog standard supply shop with a small section for crafts and sewing, a 'school spirit' store full of clothes, souvenirs and accessories branded with the school's logo and a tuck shop full of food, drinks, snacks and sweets (DO NOT LOSE ACHILLES HERE).

    GYMNASIUM:

The gymnasium is locked and inaccessible to regular students who are forbidden from entering it. More information on this location will be provided upon a successful investigation of the area.

    STUDENT DORMS:

The student dorms are about as unexciting as you can get! Each suite consists of a small common area with a tiny kitchen, a bathroom off to the side and two small bedrooms, one for each students. There seems to be plenty of vacancies, so younger Executors will be sorted into suites at random and may find themselves having to share a dorm with an unfamiliar roommate. Terrifying...

    FACULTY DORMS:

Exactly as unexciting as the student dorms! Since there are less faculty members at the school, the faculty dorm building as a whole is a fair bit smaller, though thankfully the rooms are around the same size. The big difference is that the faculty suites only have one bedroom, but are otherwise the same size as the student accommodation. Truly unfair. Students are forbidden from entering the faculty dorms and may be punished if they're found here.

    OUTDOOR AREAS:

⚝ Pool: It's... a pool! There's nothing particularly exciting to say about it. It's a nice size for swimming in and the water is always clean and cool, so it might be worth coming down here for a swim when the heat gets to you. If you're lacking a swimsuit, a standard issue school swimsuit will be provided for you so go wild!
⚝ Running Track: A large running track that's open for use to all students, so long as the track and field club aren't making use of it. Excellent for trying to outrun the existential dread!
⚝ Soccer Field: A large-sized soccer field perfect for either a full match or just for doing whatever it is you do with a ball on a soccer field. I literally don't know anything about sports.
⚝ Garden: A gorgeous garden, well maintained by the gardening club. It's full of colorful and fragrant flowers and there's a small vegetable patch as well where things like tomatoes are in the process of being grown.
⚝ Forest: A thickly wooded forest area at the back of the school that seems to go on forever into the horizon. It's strictly forbidden for students to enter it. More information on this location will be provided upon a successful investigation of the area.
