Luxuria
![]() Whatever you might have expected the Lust Layer to be, it's probably not what swims into view as the Executors make their way down to it. Like a single point of light shining in the dark, under an eternal night sky, Luxuria, the Lust Layer of Purgatory takes the form of an enormous and endless carnival, running games and rides until a dawn that never comes. For the Executors who've been awakened long enough to remember it, there's probably something uncomfortably familiar about the flashing lights and bustling noise but a surprise twist, the lights and sounds of Luxuria aren't overwhelming – there's something inviting and infectious about the layer's energy that makes you want to involve yourself in all its comings and goings. You've all been working so hard, after all. It wouldn't hurt to have a bit of fun, would it? Luxuria is full to bursting with Spectres, some playing at the stalls, some hopping on rides and some taking up the role of operators to keep everything running smoothly. Unfortunately, things do cost money here but you'll be able to pay with currency from any of the Layers you've visited in the past – useful, considering you've got the Authority of Greed and his deep pockets on your side. It's also worth noting that much like the Gula Underside, it's very hot in Luxuria. The air is dry and sharp and even the ground feels hot, as if some terrible heat is radiating up from the lower Layers... but that's probably fine. Also of note is the odd effect being in Luxuria seems to have. Once the initial burst of infectious excitement is gone, the Executors may find their inhibitions are a little more lax than usual – nothing too extreme, but it may be enough to make them indulge in some carnival fun a little more readily than they otherwise might have. If they continue to indulge excessively, they'll find themselves drawn to more and more extreme forms of fun in the form of the carnival's huge rides... until eventually even that won't be enough. But surely no one's going to get that far. Right?
⚝ Games: You KNOW we've got games here and all with a huge selection of stuffed animals and other trinkets for you to win and take home. There's some games that rely on good aim and coordination like shooting and tossing games and a few more relaxed ones like hooking a rubber duck, spinning a wheel of prizes or bobbing for apples. Whether these will actually be engaging for the Executors is an entirely different question. ⚝ Rides: The OTHER fun thing to do at carnivals! There's the usual suspects like go-karts, carousels and bumper cars, as well as mechanical bulls and the like. There's a few more extreme rides like helter-skelters, log flumes and such as well. There's an arcade where you can play all sorts of smaller games like beep-boop retro cabinets or table games like skeeball or pinball where you can win tickets to exchange for prizes. There are mutterings of even more extreme rides available to the most daring, but you'll need to investigate to confirm those rumours ⚝ Roller Coasters: Apart from the wheel, the stars of the show in Luxuria are the two coasters that encircle the carnival. The first is Caster, a sort of extreme ride that's... relatively tame by Executor standards but fun all the same. The other is Pollux and you're... pretty sure if this wasn't Purgatory, this thing would have killed everyone who set foot on it??? On top of it climbing to dizzying heights and dropping to heart-exploding lows on the regular, it twists, turns and spirals in a way that even makes a seasoned Executor's head spin. The speed makes it hard to breathe, if you can even stop screaming long enough to breathe at all. Overall, it's a horrible experience!!! ... and yet you find yourself somehow tempted to go back for another try anyway... ⚝ Ferris Wheel: An absolutely titan of a ferris wheel that towers over everything else in the carnival. It's hard to tell exactly how big it might be, but it takes a good twenty minutes for a car to reach the apex of the wheel. The inside of each car is quite comfortable, with small refreshment bars and an entire half of the car dedicated to floor-to-ceiling windows showing off the view outside... not that there's much to see apart from the carnival and the stars, though. The outside of the ferris wheel is decorated with gently fluctuating lights in shifting rainbow patterns, but... does one of the cars seem strange? It might be worth investigating... ⚝ Music Stage: A large outdoor stage with a pretty impressive lighting and sound setup. Quiet music from no apparent source plays from it at most times, but occasionally an actual band or solo performer will take to the stage and start bangin out the tunes. There doesn't seem to be any particular schedule and there's no one enforcing which performers are and aren't on the stage. Live out your rock star fantasies if you so wish! ⚝ First Aid & Rest Areas: Yes, unbelievably, even in a place like this, there's somewhere to chill. A small enclosed building sits at the outskirts of the carnival, containing a first aid office with some basic first aid supplies, a locker room to store your things and a quiet room with a few vending machines, some tables and chairs and some sofas. On the second floor, there's a bed setup not dissimilar to a capsule hotel where visitors can pick an enclosed bed to get some shut eye – or at least some peace and quiet. ⚝ Train Station: On the outskirts of the layer is brightly decorated looking train station with a single platform. Sleek and colourful trains come through here every half hour on the dot, stopping only briefly to allow Executors to board. Using these trains, Executors can either travel back to any of the other layers of Purgatory without having to pass through the Underside. Isn't quick travel convenient? | |
